Description

Data set contains pest plant/weed observations recorded during management efforts in Auckland Council regionally parks between 2005 and 2024. Data is a mixture of observations made during prescribed surveys and ad-hoc or chance observations.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 29,420 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

The dataset comprises observations of pest plants collected across regional parks in Auckland through a combination of incidental observations and dedicated surveys. Data collection was performed by both internal staff and external contractors. Incidental observations were recorded during routine activities without a formal sampling protocol, capturing opportunistic encounters with pest plant species. Dedicated surveys targeted specific areas of interest but did not adhere to a standardized methodology across all sites, with no uniform sampling effort or coverage.

Study Extent Data set contains records taken within regional parks across the Auckland region.
Quality Control All data collected were overviewed for location consistency and measurement realism within the Auckland Council custom Ruru GIS database

Method step description:

  1. Due to the variable nature of data collection, there are no standardised steps utilized.
